Agent 007 drinks Chateau Angelus

Are you one of those people who, as you’re watching your favorite TV show, see a bottle of wine being opened and you pause the frame just to find out what your favorite character is drinking?  I have a game with friends where we do this during TV shows and movies.  For me, pop culture and wine go hand in hand.

This might be old news for some, but for those who don’t know, James Bond has a new drink.  He initially introduced with this drink when we met Daniel Craig in the remake of Casino Royale (2006). Two minutes on the screen and sales skyrocketed for the St. Émilion blend, Chateau Angelus.

First, let’s make an introduction to the Daniel Craig as James Bond.  Since 2006, we have seen this Bond in three movies Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), and Skyfall (2012). It has been released that we shall see him in a fourth movie this fall, Spectre (2015). Each Bond seems to have their own personal favorite drink (we all know the term “shaken not stirred”!) but do you know about the new attraction to the right bank heavyweight, Chateau Angelus?

In 2006’s Casino Royal, James Bond sips the 1982 vintage on a train while meeting up with Vesper Lynd (double agent working with Bond), and we can all see the famous label on the screen.  What you may not know is how that bottle got there. fd003-chateau-angelusFrom what my research concludes, the Broccoli family (producers of the Bond series) was sent bottles of Chateau Angelus and fell in love with the wine. A few bottles and dollars later, Bond had a new go-to on the screen.  I did wonder about the past two movies and where the bottle was. Online sources, once again, did not fail me; a few websites said there were scenes filmed with the wine but were cut short because of time restraints.

So can we expect another view of the famous bell label in this next feature?  Guess we will have to wait and see, but while we wait, who would like to go in with me and buy a bottle from ABC?
