We’ve been celebrating Margaritaville Week on our Facebook page since Monday morning, and now we’re bringing it over to our blog. It’s been a week in paradise filled with giveaways (psst there’s a giveaway today!!), cocktail recipes and margarita lovin’. But best of all, it’s been a time when parrotheads from all over Florida could come together to celebrate the single-most festive cocktail of the season, the margarita.
This green dream drink originated in a restaurant in Mexico, but which one is up for debate. Some say it was first made near Tijuana, others claim Acapulco, El Paso-Juarez or Esenada. But regardless of its actual birthplace, a traditional margarita is always made with lime juice, tequila and Cointreau. The International Bartenders Association dictates that a margarita must be made with a ratio of 7:4:3, tequila, Cointreau and fresh lime juice. Of course, there is an abundance of variations from frozen to jalapeno, ready to drink to punch-perfect.
