I’m finally back from VinExpo-Bordeaux 2015!
VinExpo takes place every other year in the city of Bordeaux, France, and represents the world’s largest wine fair open to the trade. Wineries from Europe, Asia, the Americas and more showcase their production to potential buyers from around the world.
This year was particularly successful for me in finding some gems, even though I was only looking for a limited number of wines to strengthen few areas of our already very extensive import wines portfolio. Can’t say no to top quality and value, so several new wines will be presented to our wine team over the next few months, and hopefully will find their way to our guests.
Besides the new wines, I had the chance and opportunity to sample and enjoy many older vintages, classic wines. Here are my top five of this Vinexpo, in order:
- 1985 Lynch Bages – This 30-year-old wine has another 30 years and more ahead; simply stunning!
- 1998 Pavie – From the amazing ’98 vintage, power and elegance, and long life ahead.
- Grand Puy Lacoste 2000 – I was expecting a lot here and am still amazed by the evolution and richness of this wine; noble pedigree.
- Fonplégade 2009 – This was a instant “coup-de-coeur.” The wine seduced with its elegance and perfect balance.
- Montrose 1986
