This brand new domain turned out to be our best find in Sancerre ever; Domaine La Clef du Récit was created in 2012 by the young and very talented vigneron Anthony Girard.
Anthony left his family winery, which is now run by his brother, to start his own project after having the opportunity to purchase an 8.5 hectares of first class vineyards nearby the small village of Récit (hence the name) in the southern part of the appellation.
Two-thirds of the vineyard is composed of caillottes, a type of limestone that brings freshness and fruitiness to the wine; one-third is composed of flint rocks for power and minerality.
Anthony practices sustainable viticulture which is the key to healthy grapes and ultimately the highest quality wine.
The 2014 Domaine La Clef du Récit Sancerre exhibits a limpid, pale golden color with green hues and complex aromas and flavors of ripe citrus, lemon zest, starfruit and white flowers, all perfectly balanced by refreshing acidity and pronounced minerality leading to a lengthy finish. A true gem not to be missed by any Sancerre/Sauvignon Blanc aficionado!
Enjoy as aperitif or with your favorite seafood dishes, mixed salads, poultry and aged goat cheese (Crottin de Chavignol).
The 2014 Domaine La Clef du Récit Sancerre is offered at only $22.99.
