All I Want for Christmas…

To all the many thousands of loyal readers of my blog who are stressing out over what to get me for Christmas, relax. My gift will be the easiest one you buy for anyone…just give me a bottle of wine. Wine? You’re probably thinking, “I can’t give a bottle of wine to someone who works in the wine industry! What if he doesn’t like it? He probably has all the wine he needs or wants anyway!”

Christmas list.JPGI can say almost without exception that wine lovers never have too much wine. I’m proud to say I do my personal best to inch up the per capita consumption in the U.S. every year. As far as not liking your choice of wine, don’t worry about that either. Wine is one of the easiest things to re-gift.

OK, now for some suggestions. Since I’m an Italian wine lover why not give me something you know I will like. You don’t have to be limited to any particular type or style… I can find an occasion to drink just about anything.

130803.jpgBubbles are always welcome. A Franciacorta from Bellavista or Contadi Castaldi won’t last long under my Christmas tree. If that’s a little more than you wanted to spend on my gift then a Prosecco from my favorite producer Collalto will be just fine.

I never seem to have enough white wine on hand so don’t hesitate to shop for a nice Italian white. Two of my favorite new wines are the Cascina Chicco Arneis from Piedmont and the Nunzio Ghiraldi Lugana from the shores of Lake Garda.

As for red wine the choices are endless: Amarone, Barolo, Barbaresco, Brunello, maybe a Super Tuscan? If you really want to impress me you could get me a magnum. Big bottles look so pretty under the tree. We currently have large formats of La Gerla Brunello di Montalcino and Pelissero Barbaresco Nubiola in our stores.

I hope I helped to relieve some of the stress from your holiday shopping. As I have already said, I’m the easiest person you will buy a gift for. The one caveat I must always include however is please don’t shop for my gift in the local grocery store. I’d hate to think you picked up my present at the same time you were purchasing your toilet paper and cat food.

Merry Christmas!
