The Wines of Domaine Gueguen

Domaine Gueguen, ChablisThe wines from Domaine Gueguen were the best find from last year’s VinExpo in Bordeaux. Wines of this quality level, precision, complexity and balance are not simply providing pleasure and excitement at the table; they confirm our faith in the future of wine!

Domaine Gueguen is located in the village of Préhy, just 7 km south west of Chablis. Céline and Frédéric Gueguen started their winery in 2013; they both had 15 years of experience as winemakers for large and reputable Chablis estates before setting up their own business.

With 30-years of combined experience in winemaking in Chablis and very clear vision of what they wanted to achieve, Céline and Frédéric crafted spectacular wines from day one. Their respect for the terroir and environment combined with careful and precise vinification has resulted in some truly spectacular wines.

Two wines from Domaine Gueguen are now available at select ABC Fine Wine & Spirits stores: the 2014 Chablis ($19) and the 2014 Bourgogne Côtes d’Auxerre white ($17), both 100% Chardonnay.

The Chablis vineyard is located in the villages of Chichée and Préhy. Southsast facing slopes of Kimmeridgian soil with a layer of Jurassic clay and limestone house the roots of vines that average 40 years of age.

The Burgundy vineyard is located in the village of Saint-Bris le Vineux. It is northewest facing and the soil is Portlandian with an upper Jurassic layer composed of limestone. The average age of the vines here is 28 years.

2014 Chablis from Dom GueguenBoth wines are tank fermented and aged, maturing on the lees from November to mid-April and aged for about 10 months in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and fruit.

The 2014 Domaine Gueguen Chablis exhibits pale gold color and complex aromas and flavors of citrus, green apple, star-fruit and white flowers; richness and freshness are in perfect balance on the palate, and the finish is an incredible 30+ seconds. Enjoy it as aperitif with light appetizers or with your favorite seafood dishes, raw oysters, fish carpaccio, grilled shrimp, saffron-flavored scallops or even pork filet mignon.

The 2014 Bourgogne Côtes d’Auxerre white exhibits pale yellow color and scents of white flowers, almonds and toast. The generous mouthfeel balances freshness, minerality and fruity flavors of citrus and white fruits with honeyed notes lingering on the finish. Enjoy as aperitif with light appetizers or with shellfish, grilled fish, ham, chicken and aged cheeses.
