Must Love Doughnuts

glazed.jpgThis week was technically short, but if you were anything like me, it seemed like we’d never reach the end of it. But here we are on this sweet, sweet Florida Friday and the only thing that could take this day to the next level is by celebrating fried, frosted batter.

Happy National Doughnut Day, everyone.

Last year, we celebrated with doughnut cocktails. This year, we’re celebratin’ with beer. So grab your favorite bottle opener and put on some stretchy pants. We’re about to chow down.

PAIRING 1: CLASSIC GLAZED + COFFEE STOUT

A classic glazed doughnut is sweet. It’s so sweet. And light and fluffy and finger-lickin’ good. This doughnut needs a beer to keep it in check. Thus a robust dark brew. The coffee notes in the beer will make magic with the sweet glaze that tops your doughnut. The trick is to sip slow and take large bites.

PAIRING 2: CHOCOLATE FROSTED + RASPBERRY FRAMBOISE

I’ll be honest, I love anything chocolate matched with raspberry framboise, so this is no surprise. It’s the tartness! the chocolate decadence! and the richness! all in one pairing.

PAIRING 3: MAPLE GLAZED + BROWN ALE

Maple and brown ale just go together, don’t they? Their both subtle, yet flavorful. This one is hard to put a finger on why it’s good, it just is. It always is.

PAIRING 4: RAINBOW SPRINKLE + WHEAT

Any wheat beer will do–blueberry wheat or traditional, this beer was made for light, bright fun. Just like doughnuts, just like sprinkles.

PAIRING 5: CHOCOLATE CAKE + PORTER

Envelope your palate in chocolate flavors, cocoa aromas, roasted nuances–this pairing is a match made in heaven. The sweetness from the doughnut is matched by the dark complexity of the porter for a balanced treat.
