Sunday Sippin’: The Southside

The Hendrick’s Southside is a refreshing, lightly flavored, gin-based cocktail with a hint of citrus and a touch of mint. This classic cocktail was first created during Prohibition, but the city origin is often disputed. Some say the cocktail hails from the South Side district of Chicago, while others attribute it to Long Island, New  York. This modern version of the classic brings another refreshing ingredient to the mix: cucumber.

3-4 Cucumber Slices
3/4 oz Simple Syrup
3/4 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
2 oz Hendrick’s Gin
6-8 Mint Leaves

Muddle cucumber and simple syrup in the bottom of a mixing glass. Add lemon juice, gin, mint leaves and ice. Shake until cold, about 20-30 seconds. Double strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a slice of cucumber and a sprig of mint.
