She’s the Tide to your muddy baseball uniform. She’s the mashed to your favorite homemade potatoes. She’s even the Wilma to your Pebbles or the Beyoncé to your Blue Ivy.
It’s Mom, and it’s always been Mom. For all the millions of billions things she’s done specifically for you, toast her.
“Don’t date until you’re married. Show me who your friends are and that is who you truly are as a person. If you are feeling down put some lipstick on and a good pair of heals. Find the things that make you the happiest in life and strive to keep them or get them.” – Jaycee Mason, marketing coordinator
“My mom taught me that it isn’t a glass of wine unless it’s filled to the brim. If you’ve ever heard me (or anyone who knows my mom) ask for a “mom glass of wine,” don’t stop pouring until it’s about to spill over. Also, Mom’s margaritas are made with Everclear, which you can’t get in Florida because at 190° the proof is higher than the legal limit for Florida. I learned this after being sent to five different liquor stores looking for it during her last Florida visit. We settled for the next best thing, and after a little margarita mix and a dash of cranberry juice, we have the closest thing to a mamarita as we could make in the state.” – Meghan Guarino, copywriter
“Growing up my mother would always read and sing to us. Two phrases that will be with me forever are… ‘I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck’ and ‘I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living, my baby you’ll be.’ This song has become one of my daughter’s favorites and as soon as she could speak, if you asked her how much she loved you, she would say ‘a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck’ (in her own baby gibberish way, of course.) It’s awesome to see how my mom started something that is lasting through generations.” – Katie-Lynn Freeland, assistant manager
“I think some of the more important lessons she taught me were:
– If you want others to like [love/respect] you, you must first learn to like [love/respect] yourself.
– Always try to be kind, you never know what someone else might be dealing with.
– You get what you pay for.” – Erin Held, graphic designer
“My mom always told me, “What goes around comes around,” which says do not treat anyone differently than you want to be treated because you surely will get what you give. That goes for both words and deeds.” – Bob Gibson, marketing officer
“Several years ago, I took up off-road biking and had a pretty bad crash. I called my Mom looking for sympathy and her response was, “Well, falling off a bike when you’re 33 isn’t the same as when you’re 3.” In other words I’m getting old, so stop doing stupid things. Growing up my sister and I often heard, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” I think it resonated more with my sister than with me.” – Lisa Bowes, senior marketing manager
All that advice made us a little thirsty. So we turned to Viniq, a fitting Mother’s Day sip. It’s shimmery, it’s interesting, it’s colorful and it’s pretty. We mixed it with Champagne and topped it with an orange twist.
She’s a Gem
2 oz Viniq
Moutard Demi Sec Grand Cuvée
Shake the Viniq and vodka with ice and strain into a flute. Top with Champagne and garnish with a long orange twist.
Or you could mix up a “Mom’s Vacation” – she’ll be feeling tropical in less than a minute flat.
1 oz cold pineapple juice
½ oz Charles Regnier Blue Curacao
Moutard Demi Sec Grand Cuvée, chilled
In a flute, pour the juice and blue curacao. Add the chilled Champagne and serve cold.
Whether you’re with Mom today, remembering Mom today, or maybe even a mom remembering a child today, never forget the warmth, joy and love that being a mom delivers.
Happy Mother’s Day from ABC Fine Wine & Spirits!
