Well we’ve made it to Friday, folks–ever notice how a 4-day week can feel just as long as a regular 5-day week? It just makes this day all the more sweeter to arrive at, and on this Friday, we’re prepping for tomorrow’s festivities. May 30 marks a pretty important holiday in our books, National Mint Julep Day. This day brings the month of May to a full circle every year: the Kentucky Derby kicks off the first weekend of the month, celebrated, of course, with the race’s traditional, official cocktail, while the penultimate day gives us another excuse to sip this Southern classic.
This National Mint Julep Day, mix up your favorite bourbon/mint cocktail and sip the day–or entire weekend–away. Besides, come Monday, we’ll be back to work, this time in June. Here’s what you’ll need to make this easy, lazy-day drink.
2 ½ oz Knob Creek Bourbon
½ oz Simple syrup
4-5 Mint sprigs
Lightly muddle mint leaves and simple syrup in a silver julep cup. Fill the glass with crushed ice, add bourbon and stir. Garnish with a sprig of mint and serve.
