One of the best finds from this year’s VinExpo was Domaine Bulliat, a wine producer in the Beaujolais region. Bulliat is the first domain Beaujolais to be offered at ABC Fine Wine & Spirits in a long time, and undoubtedly the highest quality wines from that region ever on our shelves!
The Bulliat Beaujolais Villages 2014 is already available in select stores for an incredible low price of $11; the Cru Beaujolais Bulliat Morgon 2014 will follow shortly.
Noël Bulliat and his son Loïc run this family estate that covers 27 hectares in eight different appellations in the heart of the Beaujolais region. It all started in 1978 when Noël bought four hectares of Beaujolais Villages straight after having graduated from viticulture school. Today, the estate produces around 70,000 bottles per year.
The estate started switching to organic practices in 2010 and was officially certified in 2013. Only natural, biodynamic treatments are used in the vineyards; grass is left growing between the vine rows to avoid the use of herbicides and naturally limit yields as well as prevent erosion. Grape picking is always done by hand. Domaine Bulliat also produces a range of organic, no sulfite wines mostly for the local market.
Domaine Bulliat Beaujolais Villages 2014 is 100% Gamay from 40-year-old vines, exhibiting bright cherry color and aromas and flavors of red fruits dominated by black cherry, strawberry and currant and perfectly balanced by fine tannins and nice acidity that adds freshness. This is Beaujolais Villages at its finest! Enjoy with light appetizers, cold cuts, charcuterie, grilled meats and vegetables and aged cheeses.
