The popularity of dry rosés wines from Southern France and Provence in particular, is rapidly growing among wine enthusiasts; in a very short time the US has become the world’s second largest consumer of dry rosé after France. And that comes to no surprise, as dry rosés are one of the most versatile types of wine; it was just a matter of time for the consumer to discover them and make them part of everyday life.
That makes even more sense here in Florida, where summer started two months ago at the end of February; dry rosés are light to medium intensity, bright and fruity and perfectly refreshing on a hot summer day. They’re the best match for summertime grill outs.
A favorite one, Château Montaud, Côtes de Provence Rosé, is back in our stores in the new 2014 vintage!
Our ABC wine team visited Château Montaud for the first time in June 2011.
Château Montaud is one of five wine estates owned by the Ravel family, where Fred Ravel is not just the owner but also the winemaker behind these wonderful wines.
The domain is located in the heart of the Massif des Maures, a plateau formation of medium elevation, where the vineyards alternate with lavender fields, cork-oak forests and the indigenous garrigue shrubs. The authentic and quiet back-country area is far away from the tourist crowds of the Côte d’Azure and is a source of the world’s best rosé wines; Domaine de Paris is another favorite Provence rosé located only a few miles away.
A classic example of the style, this wine exhibits a pale salmon pink color and aromas and flavors of fresh strawberries, raspberries, wild flowers and a long vibrant finish. Enjoy as aperitif, or pair with mixed salads, roasted vegetables, black olive tapenade, goat cheese, seafood dishes and grilled fish.
A real bargain offered at only $ 10.99 a bottle!
