You will never look at Manhattans the same again. Beer in your cocktail may sound counter to the classic (and honestly, it is), but that’s exactly why you need to try this. So sit up and put your hat on cowboy, because this Funky Manhattan is about to rock your week.
But first, a little info on the star ingredients. High West is a whiskey distillery based in Park City, Utah. Their American Prairie Bourbon is a blend of straight bourbons aged from 2-13 years. This 92-point (The Tasting Panel) whiskey is rich and balanced with flavors of honey nougat, sweet cornbread, vanilla and caramel apple. It’s a smooth complement to Funky Buddha’s East Coast IPA, which delivers flavors of grapefruit and pineapple with an undertone of caramel—the key characteristic to the perfect marriage between these two ingredients.
Fill your martini glass with ice and set aside to chill. You want your glass cold to preserve the carbonation of the beer. In a mixing glass, add High West Rye or American Prairie Bourbon and sweet vermouth and shake. Strain into your chilled martini glass and top with Funky Buddha Hop Gun IPA. Garnish with a brandied cherry and get funky!
